what is biometrics?

Hi,

AFTER I went NYC federal plaza and got I765 using the
small yellow receipt, I received a I765 receipt letter
from BCIS at Lee's Summit, MO,
stating that the my I765 was received and I should call to
schedule BIOMETRICS. There was another page in the letter
saying that if I have already received I765,
I can disregard this notice.

I still called National Customer Service Center,
nevertheless the lady there doesn't seem to know exactly
what this letter means.

Can anybody help and let me know if it is ok for me
to disregard this Biometrics?

I think this is a new proceed they are taking at BCIS for security.By this time you already went for your appointment I would appreciate if you post your experiences.I also applied for my 3rd EAD and went for biometrics about 2 weeks ago,no respose yet.
