Guys,

I am getting ready to file mine and my wife\'s I-485. I am on H1 and she is on H4. What is this A#? Do I get this after I apply I-485 or do I already have it? At one point I did apply for EAD when I was on my OPT (After completing my studies). It does have A XXX XXX XXX number on top of it. Is that A# for me. How about my wife? Please shed some light on it for me please.

Thanks,
hamrahi

Do not use the A# from your Post Practical Training. You do not have a valid A# as of now. You will get one when you get your Receipt Notice when you file your I485. Do not worry about the A# until that time.

I used the practical training (EAD) A# on my I-140 and I-485 applications. I was told that I need to put in the A# if I have one assigned earlier. When you send in your I-485, INS checks this and if it is a 9 digit number they issue you a new 8 digit A #. However, I have friends who had a 8 digit A # on their EAD card issued for practical training and their A# has not changed.

If your spouse has not had any EAD (if she happens to be on H1 or H4) then she does not have any A# and you should leave it blank.
