What if my oath letter is lost in mail and I never got it ? Would then INS think that I abondoned the N400 process?

Imagine that I am waiting here and INS thinks that I am not interested and the postal guys play their games. For example the letter might have gone to a wrong box and the other guy just dumps it. In such a case I may go to INS after few months assuming to get a letter from them. They would say that we asked you to come to oath on so and so date few months ago and you did not turn up! The argument would continue and since the letter comes in ordinary (very) mail, there is a great change it is lost in mail.

In such a case what can I do to convince the INS to get another oath letter ? Or for that matter what would happen to my N-400 process? Do I have to repeat the whole thing just because someone screwed up the process?

My wife's letter came already and mine has not. So far all our letters came together - PD, FP, Interivew everything came always in the same mail same day always together. My blood is already boiling for reasons obvious.

Now can you please throw some light on this missing letter in mail as I explained above? Thanks a lot

First of all you should check with your Local USCIS office and see if they have issued you a oath letter. If the answer is yes, then ask for a duplicate and if the answer is no then answer the following:

- do you have a common name?
- do you have a clean case?
- did the officer tell you that we need to do name check?
- your filing location?
- your timeline?

It all depends on your case. In this forum and in other immigration forums I have read so many posts where spouses got Oath letter separately.

In case you miss the Oath date, they will give you one more chance. I don't think so you need to repeat the whole process.

My advice is don't worry and hope for the best.

Good luck.

The officer there said there is nothing else required. Straight case and no worries. Very clean case. No name check was mentioned. Filing location is Miwaukee (Nebraska SVC CTR). Intervew on March 23rd. He said "Oath can take a month, 3 months or 6 months!" The same officer interviewed my wife and she already got the letter. I do not have a common name. Neither a muslim name nor anything complicated in my case. I got a letter from officer that the file is recommended for approval.

Should I wait or go and ask if they sent the letter?

I would call or go inperson to your local Milwaukee USCIS office and ask them. You should not worry at all. You will get it soon.
Just call them first and then wait for atleast 2 weeks. If no action within 2 weeks then go in person and ask them.

Good luck.

You can call the toll free number and ask to spk with an INS officer too, they can tell u if oath is scheduled for u

Thanks Rahul. I spoke to them this morning. After nearly 30 minutes of hold one guy named Larry came on. He would not allow me to talk to immigration officer. He said "If there is anything we cannot resolve, we pass it to Immigration Officers, but in your case, you have to go to local office and inquire. There is nothing we can do. Have I answered all your questions today?"

The last sentence was obviously aimed at me to cut the line off.I plan to wait till the end of this week and go to INS office early next week before the oath on 13th. Any hope I had before calling this number just faded out. Thanks again.

I too have found lousy answers when I called this #. What i did was call at a different time! And again and again!
