I watched the KCTS news tonight. The event consisted of about six people, and the debate went on balanced between supporters and opposers of Bush's guest worker amnesty;Pat Buchanan, The Chicago Tribune Editor and others.
The conclusion, even from the folks who oppose the President amnesty or guest-worker program, is that no such guest-worker program should be passed this year. That opinion is also backed by the director of the Center for Immigration Studies. Since this is a highly controversial issue, politicians like to talk loudly about it, but it is natural that they are reluctant to act.
Where do we stand on this ? Well, for the folks who like myself - are contacting senators out there, see whether you have a chance to suggest that a bill to remedy our specific Employment Base situation is introduced. Even if it is a temporary increase in visa numbers to take the veterans out of this mess, that is better than waiting for a broad comprehensive reform. Trust me, be included in any bill that involves 12 million illegals may become a lose lose situation to us, even if our visa numbers are also increased.
