What if I lose job in the final stage of my I-485?

I am in the EB1 (outstanding research) category for I-485 filing. My H1B visa expired on August, 2002. My EAD is going to expire on 1/21/03. I just filed EAD renewal on 11/8/02 (haven't gotten receipt yet). Now, I am in the edge of losing my current job. If that happened, can I continue with my green card appilcation and can I legally stay in this country with EAD? Does EAD require a certain employer like H1B or not?

I heard recently a lot of EB1 filers have been transfered to local INS. Are employ letter, paycheck stubs required for the interview or RFE from VSC? Because if I lost job, I can't provide above materials.

I saw posts from the forum showing that EB1 doesn't need employer support in the process of I-485. Is that true and can it be applied to all the subcategories of EB1, like extradinary, outstanding?

Hope to get your answers.

Thanks in advance!

I also want to know about it.

we have the similar cases. self-employed,

I was required to provide letterhead from employer(other than me), tax return(joint tax with family). Have no idea why they ask these stuffs. But my advise is to provide them if you have. tell them if you do not have.

sorry, I am not able to offer some help, you may find a lawyer to find out why and how.
