What happens when you open a service request

Dear all
I would like to know what happens when one creates a service request on a case with the USCIS.
In our case, it was an EAD application, approved but card returned to uscis as undeliverable since Aug 10th and no updates, long wait to resend it and even took infopass and no card.
We opened a service request yesterday...
What happens now???
How long it takes to hear back from them ????
Please share your experience with service request.
 
How do you know

if your card was returned to uscis? Any updates online? My wife's card was sent on 21st sept (as per uscis online case status). We never received it. The online status still says the same. We have opened a service request a couple of days back. Please Let me know if you get any information.

Yes, it was returned to the USCIS as per the online status on Aug. 10th and no change after that!! and no card either.
