what happens if gc sent to wrong address

Hi all

I think the USCIS goofed up yet again. Despite filing the AR11 forms almost two years back when I moved addresses, the agency has sent my gc (plastic card) to my previous address. They said (CSC) they mailed it on 8/19/04 on the online status but I still have not received it. I presume it was because my address on the biographic info for the I 485 was my previous address (filed in July 02).

I was wondering what I can do in such a situation. I have talked to an IIO at the 1-800 number and changed the address. I have also scheduled an infopass appointment at the local CIS office to figure out what I can do. Can all you gurus please advise, what I can do? Should I need to file an I 90 for a replacement green card or what??

Thanks

I am not a guru but apart from reporting the address change to USCIS promptly (i suppose you did it), everybody who moves should make sure to go to the local post office and register for forwarding any mail to the new address. It goes automatically and I haven't lost anything although I moved more than 1 year ago. However since CSC mailed your GC on 8/19 you still can hope to get it. Let us know how is it going.

Did you not go for Stamping after the I-485 was approved ? The Plastic Card is sent to the address that you give in the Application Form for the Plastic Card which is submitted during the Stamping.

AR-11 is NOT an USCIS form (but DHS form). AR-11 does not change the address on your I-485 application. To change I-485 address, you needed to contact your service center (CSC). Or fill-up I-89 form while passport stamping with your new address.

Most of the mails from USCIS don't get forwarded as they put "Return Service Requested" on the envelope (instead of "Forward/Address srevice requested"). If some mailman forwarded your USCIS letters, that's by mistake. Don't count it always - some mailmen/mailwomen do not make mistakes.

If you know your previous address, just go over there and ask them if they got a mail for you ;)

thank you guys

Hi all

Thanks for all your responses. I did get my passport stamped on 07/26/04.Approval date was 07/06/04. I did confirm my present address with the IIO, but I do not know why the goof up still happened. Anyway, I have talked with the IIO on the 1-800 number since and confirmed my new address. I shall let you know how it goes.

Thanks again. This forum is the best!! Thanks to Rajeev and all his staff!! :o :o
