I really didnt think abt life after 485 approval!!

Now that getting 485 approval is a possibility, I need to know whats next?

Do I automatically get GC in mail? or do I have to go to INS office? Or is there another application?

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

once you get the approval letter you can go the local INS office for the Stamp in PP . Then your card will be mailed .

Now a days the cards are coming pretty fast two to three weeks

There was a time when even they were pretty late.

Check transfer to local offices thread under VSC 485

And also if you have any beef with your employer you know what to do plus get drunk ..and don't get into trouble with the law

or move back to home country (to start an outsourcing company) :D JK

Look at this thread:
http://boards.immigration.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=767901#post767901

especially, where he says:
The new wait - for the plastic card (which could be over a year nowadays as we were told) - had just begun!

Does plastic card mean the actual GC? Is it really taking that long? I also read elsewhere that it is better to stick with your sponsoring employer (unless you used AC21 and moved elsewhere) for atleast 6months to 1 year after you get your GC. If this is true, is that meant to be from the time of stamping or from the time we receive the card?

Of course, If the card gets to you within a couple of weeks (as per hmd), it should not matter much.

But can you travel with passport stamp, or do u still need any other INS documents (h1B, AP, EAD or anything) after stamping?

Can u switch employers based on stamping or do u need plastic card?

Yes you can travel with stamp no need for any documents like H1B

yes you can switch employers based on the Stamp no need for plastic card.

yes the plastic card is actual GC. ( it doesn't have color Green i think it has Pink in color similar to EAD)

Well sticking with employer is advisable for atlease 3 to 6 months since they will ask these questions at the time of Citizenship

But i am sure there quiet no of ppl who switch jobs immediately.

search the VSC 485 forum . There are plenty of threads/post regarding this.
