what done this mean? Code 3 biometrics notice received

We applied for I-485 in oct. 2002. My wife, myself and my daughter received the approval in Aug. 2004 BUT NOT my son due to the name check. Today we receive a letter from CIS for doing my son's biometics on Octomber after the long wait. Can somebody help to on the following:

1. Does this mean the Name Check for my son completed?

2. What the code 3 or 2 means?

3. How long we can get the approval notice after the biometrics?

4. He is asked to have the appointment on middle of Octomber, can we do earlier? as we need his green card for college application.

I am also in the same boat . My 485 is pending and I got an appointment letter today for Biometrics with code 3 in it . Can anyone please help us what does this mean? I filed my case concurrently in July 2004 . 140 is approves.
 
I think this biometrics (code 2 or 3) is just to get rid of the passport stamping step. That means physical card will arrive directly without the need for pp stamping.

Code 3

- Finger prints for all fingers
- Index finger print taken seperately
- Photo will be taken
- Electronic Signature will be taken

Code 2

- Index finger print taken seperately
- Photo will be taken
- Electronic Signature will be taken

Myself and wife got Code 3 where as my daughter got code 2 as she is below 14 yrs of age [finger prints not required ]

Because of early biometrics, you will get the actual Card directly without any PP stamping.
 
I contacted CSC-XII this morning and got the response in one hour but disappointed that my son's NC is still pending (the standard response). It seems the Biometrics notice has nothing to do with the NC. It neans everyone need to do anyway (my son's last FP was in Aug. 2004.

Any idea what will happen to my son's case due to the retregression if the main applicant was approved already?

Your son's case will not be touched until the priority date touches
your priority date. This is quite unfortunate.

For all who received his/Her Code 3 FP notice, here is my story:

On Sept 26, recved FP notice for main applicant(not my wife), appointment date Oct 19,2005! I am CHINA/INDIA petitioner(EB2-NIW).
Based on my reading from this forum, I believe there was a small chance my 485 would be approved soon.
Today I walked in Sacramento ASC for FP, first was kick out by the
Guard. Guard had name list on his hand and check the name. when Guard went to Restroom or whereever, I went directly to receptionist. She never check the appointment date, only name/ID etc. I got a number and got FP done in less than 30 minutes.
AFter that, I sent email to CSC XII and got the reply my status was stuck on name check(BS!) like before.

Made an appointment through Infopass on Sept 30 and hope see immigration officer on the last day and make my last shot!(well, Thanks God! I need cancel it!)

Just wake up to check if my LUD status changed due to FP done, and found yes, LUD changed today on 9/28/05. When i click in the status hoping see the unchanged status description/or something like FP received. I found both me and my wife's 485 were approved!

Check email and found approved emails!

We were not that lucky. Yesterday I and my son went to San Diego service center. We were first refused by the gard and then I managed to talk to the supervisor. He checked with his boss and said they could'nt as there were still many people waiting due to the computer shut down earlier (we were there arond 1:30pm). Instead he suggest me to try another one in San Marcos. In fact he called the San Marcos center and confirmed for us.

We drove directly to the San Marcos center at 2:30pm. The office absolutely empty except the operators and officers. We even greeted by the opperator at the door (maybe due to no customer for a while) and got the paper works done. When my son was guided to the machine, the operator found the the date was not yesterday, she talked to her supervisor and I also explained to her our situation. But she said they could not do it without the date match. I asked the reasons she simply said I-485 can not get the earlier Biometrics.

So frustrated with this system.

But we'll try San Diego center today again!

Book a hotel and show them that u r not available on the appointment date.
They will do it early if u have reason .
