What does it mean ? -- "Background investigation" --

I put up an enquiry for my case ( I-485, Received date September 15, 2003)
I received the reply...


The status of this service request is:

Until the background investigation is completed, we cannot move forward on your case. These background checks are required to be completed on all applicants who apply for the immigration benefit you are seeking. Is there any one who can decode this message of my pending I-485, Please?
What can it be?

It would be FBI NC or they`re reviewing and rechecking your I140, sponsor.

F1 -> I-485, I-130 -> I-360

You may be right, ( In my case I-130 ) LUD changed on I-130 on 07/08/2006, even there no husband any more

You are stuck in what is called the FBI name check. Google it, you'll probably find some information about it.

Try searching for it on this website, there's been quite a few threads about it, and about how to fight it. Good luck:)
