After getting an EAD as an IT professional, do we get authorization to run our own business ? or we'll be just stuck in the same area defined in our Labor ?

As a second question, when wife get an EAD, she should be free to work here without any restriction. My conclusion is I should be free of job restriction after getting EAD. So, What about spouse's Social Security Number ? Does she get a number ? If not, at which stage she will be qualify to have an Social Security Number ?

EAD is not a final

EAD is a work authorization. So you may start your business immedately but issue is , if there would be an issue in 485 approval, you may have to wind up everything. but not quite sure what would be the consequences.

SSN pre-requisite is , "you have to have work authorization", so she can go to SS Admin office and apply for SSN, then she can start working with SSN with valid EAD.

Hey Zbd, you must work on same or similar occupation even after getting the EAD. Your wife is free to work anywhere and any occupation using EAD.

With EAD, you can work for your own business. To my understanding, as long as you keep your sponsoring job, you can open your business in whatever field you want and work using EAD.

For example, I just got a part-time job yesterday using EAD. I think that's a good benefit of EAD. I hope my part-time position can make me forget a little bit about all this lack of visa numbers insanity.

It is true that if the I-485 is denied - since I won't have H1B anymore - that means I may need to go back home... others tell me I can appeal and wait for results .Anyway, I decided not to renew H1B since that cost too much ($1,500/year). Moreover, if I-485 fails, I think that means in the worst case scenario I should go home anyway.
