What do the I-485 processing dates mean?

According to the USCIS web site they are processing I-485 employment based in Ca for May 15th, 2002. My application was filed on April 30th 2002. After inquiring with my Lawyer, he tells me that they are still processing Jan. Can anyone tell me what the expected wait for a response from CIS is?

Also after reading some of the postings i am worried to ask for an inquiry. I am afraid this will result in my file getting send to the SJ office which is processing Jan- 2002. Any comments?

Is there a corrolation between the dates USCIS posts and when they contact you?

Also, I had few months of unemployment, and now I have a job. I do earn the same amount of money as filed in my I-140. However, I no longer function as a manager. Is this something I should be concern about?

I485 filed April 30th- 2002 (I was in CP first)
I-140 applied June 2001- Approved Dec 2001.
 
Its the USCIS solution to handle their call center load. Their study shows that the small the date published, the lower the number of calls they get :rolleyes:
 
Thanks Krishna. I can understand they keep the dates low. However, my date has passed the one posted on the web site. My question to the community is when do we hear back from USCIS after the date has been announced?
