What do I need to keep my GC?

All,

Due to certain personal issues, I might have to go back to my home country for 2-3 yrs. What do I need to do so that I do not lose my GC? Any and all help is appreciated.

Get a re-entry permit. But even with re-entry permit, you
are allowed to stay outside USA for up to only 2 years

What if I convince my employer to help me out? They have an office in London where I need to be. Is that possible? Can I stay in UK based on work and also take care of my personal issues?

Do I need to keep renewing the re-entry permit if my stay extends beyond 2 years (which it probably will)? If yes, do I need to be in the US while renewing it?

Re-entry permit is not renewable so come back and live in the USA
when 2 year is up. After you live in USA for sometime, you may
apply for another reentry permit

I may be wrong but i heard you need to come back to USA to apply
for another re-entry permit.

That does not contradict what I said first time :"come and life
in USA, after some time you can appky for another reentry".
At least he will have to be here for the period of time
it takes to get an reentry permit
