I am to the USA when I was only seven years old, with my brother about 5 and my mother. I didn't speak too much English, but was fairly educated for a seven year old. When my mother tried to file for permanent residence, she was duped by "fake lawyers" who eventually just did everything wrong and late.
Ten years forward I am here today, with nothing but a social security number and a notice to be removed with no date as to when, and this forum with no idea of where to go.
I'll be 19 shortly, my brother 17. He is an honors student, being interviewed by some of the best colleges in this beautiful country... the only thing that is sad that he may never be able to have the education he works so hard to get, may never have the chance to be the engineer that will change the world as he dreams of... because when these schools see he isn't of legal status, they will surely turn their backs.
As far as I go, I've given up on education and began working however I can to be able to make sure he has everything he needs to stay in school. I can't go to college or get federal aid in fact. I graduated as one of the top students in my high school which didn't make a difference. I am harassed daily by law enforcement because of my nationality with no choice but to surrender as I can't even get a valid DMV ID. I've never been arrested either.
So ... is there anything out there that we can do? Any last resorts? What if I opened my own business (as I dream of), incorporated it, got a tax id, can I do anything then? What about for my brother, my mother? Can she do anything?
God bless all of you who take the time to read this post, I hope I didn't ruin your day but, this is the best I can do with these handcuffs on me.
