what did you wear to your interview?

A few years ago, when I went to the INS for an interview,
I wore my usul business suit. When I got there, I was the
only one at the INS office that wore a suit. Even the officer
who interviewed me only wore a dress shirt, no tie, kahaki
pants. I got my greencard stamp in my old passport within
20 minutes.

Still... was it wrong for me to wear a suit? I once went with
my brother-in-law to his oath ceremony. Most people were
dressed in a very casual fashion../..

hmm...

....wear anything dude, just make sure your paperwork is better than the clothing.

For what it's worth:

I work in "business casual" clothing. I tossed a sports coat over top of that for the interview (the USCIS is just down the street from my office so I scooted out and back to work). I figured I'd do whatever I could to make the IO understand that I really cared about this.

I wore a jacket and tie to the oath ceremony.

I wore a suit but no tie. My wife wore black pants and some sweater/shirt . We were really surprised to see people in ill fitting tight jeans and t shirts.

There is no dress code. Most of the people on the day of my interview were in business casuals with just one person in a suit. But all the folks passed their respective interview. So, as someone else said before, wear whatever you prefer but just ensure all your paperworks are in place.
