What benefit does one get applying EAD

I have an H1B visa and can freely move in an out of the US with the valid H1B. I dont need Advance Parole.

I applied for EAD and AP and got both anyway. What can I do with the EAD? Can I do a part time job beside my regular full-time H1B job. Can I start a small consulting business?

Can someone clarify?
