Someone knowledgeable please help: If I don\'t receive the plastic card in mail before my I-551 stamp expires (12 months), can I get another stamp from the local INS? How hard is it?

Can I file I-90 after 12 months to request for a new card?

What are the consequences I’d face without the actual plastic card? I have been waiting for the card for almost 6 months and my husband received his card a month ago :(

Go to local INS file I90, it should be free since you never got it.
There are some possible complications without plastic, but you are of PR status. Those include:
* If you move, card might be sent to old address and get lost.
* Some third countries may require a visa without plastic.
* In few cases, SSN card issuance related to A# not being in the system (i.e. NOT by itself lack of plastic) was problematic.

If you do not have the plastic, then you have to
carry your passport all the time. It is easy to
damage or lose the passport than the actual plastic card.
Replacing passport is more difficult than replacing the
plastic.
