what are the advantages of linking approved I140 with new petition?

I have an I-140 approved under EB-2 category and am filing another petition (concurrent I-140 & 485) under EB-1 due to retrogression. I am thinking of including a letter to request linking approved I-140 to use the old priority date for what its worth but my lawyer says there is no benefit to that. I would appreciate your ideas on linking approved EB-2 I-140 with new EB-1 petition.

there is no benefit to that, since you dont need a LB, plus proving that you got approved for and EB-2 doesnt mean anything for the EB-1, so I think your lawyer is right
 
isn't it useful in anyway with respect to the processing times bulletin released by USCIS every 2-3 weeks? for example, starting an enquiry in case of delay in adjudication of petition?

you might be able to use your EB2 (if not NIW) priority date for EB1-OR only after your EB1-140 is approved.
