What are people's experiences with trying to reschedule FP appointment

My appointment is for September 2nd but I need to go before since I have some travel plans. I called USCIS and the person I spoke with said that I can request to have my appointment rescheduled but if they can't give me an earlier appointment I might end up with one that's later than the one I already have. I have been to the FP office in Manhattan and it's never busy so I don't see a reason why they wouldn't be able to see me sooner.

Any similar experiences?
 
DON'T reschedule!! Rescheduling is unpredictable, and many who reschedule get an appointment many months later. Try to do a walk-in before Sept. 2. Don't call ahead, just show up, and if they're not too busy they'll probably accept you. If they refuse you, show up again another day.
 
When you go, don't say anything about the date unless they bring it up. They might not even notice that you're doing it before the scheduled date if you don't say anything.
