This may sound silly, but for tax filing purposes, are asylees considered "resident aliens" or "non-resident aliens? Anyone?

Thanks. yes, I was asking for tax purposes only. There're different procedures for resident aliens and nonresident aliens. Actually, after I posted the question, I went back to the IRS web-site and figured it out. Turns out if you're not PR (which of course we aren't) and want to file as a resident alien (form 1040), you need to prove the residency for 3 years (183 days during the 3 year period). There's a whole table to figure it out if anyone's interested.

but anyways, thanks for your reply.
