Hi everyone,

I've been trying to wrap my head around the steps/process of what happens between finding out you've been selected to the actual interview itself?

Can any gurus out there give me an overview, like a 1,2,3 step list of the basic outline of the steps that need to happen for the process.

Am I right in thinking that you have to send a first set of forms to the KCC after you find out initially you have been selected? Then what happens?

Also, can someone tell me if you have to send any DOCUMENTS (like education certs etc.) in the mail, or is that only done at the interview itself. I think you only have to send the forms and two photographs in the mail....

Thankyou!!

If you win the lottery, the notification on your status check directs you to this website, www.dvselectee.state.gov, where you will find all the steps after you've been selected for further processing. I wish you win the lottery, and go through all the process. Best of luck!!!!

1. Yes, you send in the two forms and photos, along with the barcode sheet that came with your online successful notification, using a service that allows you to track the delivery.

They get thousands of applications a day so it can take them a month, after delivery, to actually process your application. Most of us call them around that time to confirm they've processed our application, so we can stop worrying as much.

2. Then you do nothing but wait for your case number to get current, which means an interview will be scheduled for you. You know this via their Visa Bulletin which they publish every month, around the 2nd week. I.e.,: http://travel.state.gov/visa/bulletin/bulletin_1360.html

The Visa Bulletin shows two months of cut-off numbers for each region, i.e., the January VB will show February and March's numbers - sections B & C. All cases below that cut-off number will have their interview in that month.

3. A few days after your case number is shown to be current in section C, they will email you to say you've got updates (instructions) available online. Note, you have to use your confirmation number, not your case number so it's important to never lose that. So just follow those instructions (where to get your medical check, etc.). They seem to be consulate and country specific so you can't always go by what others here say about their interview in their country, although it's generally quite similar.

It's all self-serve via email so you need to make sure they have a valid email address for you. They emailed me about 3 weeks before my appointment with the list of documents and photocopies I needed to bring with me. No, you don't mail in your documents.

It's a lot of waiting, as it's a long process but after it was all done, I found the hardest part was just getting selected. The rest is just about being organized and carefully following instructions, as long as you were truthful and accurate all along. This forum is great for helping out with questions and to ease your mind.

Good luck.
