What about changing careers after GC?

There is a lot of talk in these threads about changing jobs after getting a GC, with general agreement that while there is a risk at any time after you change your job, the risk is small after 6 months, a year, and so on.

What about changing careers? If one is working in software and now want to move in to finance, after, say 6 months of being with the original employer who sponsored the GC, is that considered to be a much bigger risk or at the same level as just changing a job but remaining in the same field?

The six month rule is like vapor. It does not exist in paper but can be used
as a factor by the interviewing Officer at the time of N400 interview!

Nevertheless, one has the flexibility to change employer and to change the field of work after a reasonable time of employment with the GC sponsor.

As long as you don't do anything that's illegal, you are just fine.
