Dear friends,
I went in for the citizenship interview yesterday April 18th. Went in for the interview at 2:00 pm. I took the oath with my right hand up. After that the officer went over my N 400 form. After that she told that she is going to check if my background check has arrived or not. She came back after 5 minutes and told that my backgrond check has not arrived from an outside agency. So she took my interview and after I passed that she gave me the form with civic and English test passed and checked the option that a decision could not be made and oath information will be sent in mail.

Is this usual that background check arrives after interview ? What should I do..

My wife also filed the case with me and she got passed. Her oath is on May 17th in Boston. :)

Thanks,

N400 sent on January 17th 2006
PD Jan 19

Called FBI on 2/20/06, they had already sent info to INS on 16th
Interview notoce received on 3/1/06
Interview date 4/18/06
Oath ??/??/??

Relax

Enjoy the name check - background abyss

Ignore it, let it go, consider it like a lost money - after time you find your money and you are happy ;)

Boston, I believe you were asking about the background check, not the name check. My impression from what I read in this forum is that the name check is cited way more frequently as a problem compared to the background check. My understanding is also that the background check should be rather straight forward ... either way you will have to wait and you don't have to assume that only because some unlucky petitioners get awfully stuck in the system, that this will happen to you. You may get a letter next week for all you know. It's just disappoiting that you did not get the 'recommended for approval' right away ...

In the USCIS lingo, Background check includes Name Check and many (most of the) times means Name Check.

For example on my after-interview paper, the IO wrote "Background check pending" and when I went for my first (and the last too) InfoPass, they gave me another piece of paper saying "Background check pending".
