Yes, you did get the "facts" wrong. The flud in New Orleans was caused mostly by rivers and lakes surraunding the city, not by rain. And the fact that NO is below the sea level added to destruction. The level of water in the city was several feet, not inches...

The amount of guns in USA is a lot more than in India, hence violance was wide spread. Most of the people living in NO are african-americans, who proved not to be very friendly... as in any neighborhood with high african-american population, just go to Garlem for example...

The reaction of army was surprisinally poor, and the government looked powerless... sad to say that...

oh, well anyway... the point is, don't be so proud!

you got it messed up GCG

Fact1- water in rivers and lakes comes through rain. rivers and canals were flooded by rain which Katrina bought. I hope you understand this!

Fact2- 'violence' happened in "developed" country like US and which didn't happened in so called "develping" country like India. It dosent matter people of which race did it or how many guns are in this country. Fact is voilence happened.

Fact3 - Although Indian govt didn't do a great job in helping flood victims but they definately had faster response and better delivery that so called 'advanced army of US'.

Although India is still a developing nation but developed contries like US also have a long way to go! Ofcourse we are proud that we handeled this natural disaster better than americans.

Can't help but comment on this. Some facts I would like to point out,

The flood in Mumbai affected a much lesser area than in NO.
The flood in NO was mostly cause by the leeve breach, and the water reached sevearl feet unlike Mumbai where, it was in inches. Also, because NO is below sea level, the water level is not expected to recede for several more weeks. In Mumbai, the water went back in a matter of days.
The response to the NO flood was horribly slow, and to the Mumbai was efficient and quick. The Indian Govt. did score on this.

Don't Compare things

Please guys don't compare things. I am sure that none of you guys were in those places (Mumbai and New Orleans) and so please instead of pointing fingers on others try to help in anyway you can.

There is no question of pointing fingers at anybody.

It was a natural disaster in both Mumbai and New Orleans and people suffered by it.
My prayers are always for those who suffered but comparison posted by suren1 is worth to be noted.

Although India is still a developing nation but developed contries like US also have a long way to go!

Help

Forget about flood stats, rain stats and other stuff.
Point is that in 3rd world country, we know that Govt will not come to help. So person who is involved in that incident was helping other person rather than waiting to seek help. Poor person on the street some how was able to survive and went back to own work once things got settled. Govt did some job but credit goes those people standing together.

In SuperPower Nation, problem was everyone affected was waiting for help, instructions...Govt promised that help.. but when help did not come on time, it started cracking going back to Animal instincts.. Food Water looting was ok. undestandable..but rape, murder, electronics looting, garbage was bad for human kind.. that animal instinct was bad and ugly.
it does not make difference in which country it was happening..
New Orlens will be best city in the world in next decade (no need to even compare to Mumbai) but still when we will talk about flood, we will always remember those blank faces waiting for promised help..
Check who is leading FEMA and what is his background and how he was places to this post.. you will realize why there was delay.

India - I feel proud

Cutting it short - let us give credit where credit is due - India - the combination of People and the Government together..I know people (My Aunt, very close family)who spent whole night in the bus waiting for water to recede..Govt was not there but Govt employee, the bus driver kept the bus on in the night so that people can have some light...the people living around rushed with Tea, buiscuits, snacks, food etc...these were those people who themselves were poor..The urge was to help..no one tried to rob the passengers...when in the morning, people walked back home thru water, there was no fear of the people around...

In New Orleans, it was Misery of the highest level...we can give any reason, water thru Levee or rain, African people or local goons..the fact is India scored and US failed...I feel sad about US but it shocked me as well....If that is the response in emergency...and such a level of lethargy...does it give some indications of the future of this contry..

And by that standards, excellent future of India too....I would also say - Jai Hind...I feel proud of India.....

You won't believe it but my uncle is bus driver and he was there in bus for 36 hours with conductor in Dharavi area. They did not leave bus because kids and women were using bus as shelter.. all my school friends in Girgaum (which was less affacted area) prepared food (pav-bhaji, vada pav) and took it to Western railway side. Again it was plain and simple help to other human with out expecting anything back.
Now in new orlens there is big help coming from all over world. people are giving so many charities but all that is not going to bring back lost promise. it showed crack in US society, double standards and Commander In Chief. They can recover everything build best city but can not bring back those 4 days lost.

Actually the answer to your question was in your punch line only

US is a 1st world country and India is a 3rd world country...

That's exactly why they are evacuating NO simply because the water has become a bit polluted...

Whereas in India in 1000s of cities and villages people live in way worse condition than what NO is today...drink way worse water everyday...walk to work thru roads filled with filth and drain water which are way worse than NO...

...and all that is life as usual in India because India is a 3rd world country...
NOT OK in US because US is a 1st world country...

I love to be proud for my motherland too...but, my friend, not in this case... :) :) :)

Your comments are respected...As I said...few people were "expected" not to accept the good doings of India.

Question is not of dirty water or evacuation v/s no evacuation...question is --we survived after Super Cat and others fizzled at cat 4(poor cat).

After all 15 to 37 inches of rain is no comparison...and under pressure, we win. 37 inch is like all Levee broken ....not partly broken..

To be frank, US wins when every thing falls in the path of pre defined process ( Computerized)...If for any reason, a thing falls out of place (Like Katrina), it is all mess.

Again Jay Hind...

You may differ, I have no issues with that...after all it is individual's thought process..
