This individual will be accountable for the design, development, testing and support of the presentation layer of Department of Education websites. He/she should demonstrate an understanding of design principles (i.e. screen layout, composition, color theory and typography) and be familiar with web standards, usability theories and best practices.
Core responsibilities will include creating compelling designs that address DOE requirements and usability issues; presenting conceptual models to stakeholders such as screenshots, storyboards, wire frames, and/or prototypes; producing graphic elements, icons, and images needed for approved designs; preparing and maintaining cascading style sheets and design style guides; providing hand-coded HTML, client-side JavaScript, and XSLT documents to middle-tier developers; performing quality assurance on creative and front-end deliverables; and collaborating with the project manager and the development team to adhere to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment.
An online portfolio or screenshots/URLs of previous work is required.
Required Skills: Must have 3-5 years experience using HTML, DHTML and JavaScript;
Must have 2-3 years experience designing websites with cross-browser compatibility on multiple platforms;
Must have 2-3 years experience using Photoshop or another industry-standard graphics software program;
Must have 1-2 years experience using XML, XHTML and XSLT.

Preferred Skills: Experience with the .NET framework and Microsoft software/technologies including ASP.NET, Visual Studio and Visual Source Safe is a plus;
Macromedia Flash is also a plus but not required.
