My wife (the petitioner) and I arrived at the interview on dec 11th and after 4 hours were told that our officer had an emergency and that we would be assigned to a different officer, and hour later they sent us home saying they can not locate our documents. They gave us back the notice with I’m assuming the name of the assigned officer on it and that it. I took the small paper with our que number to prove we were there.

I haven’t found so far anyone who experienced this.

We filed on June 28th 2019
The interview was scheduled for December 11th on October 31st 2019
(EAD and Travel document arrived on December 4th)
Our lawyer never experienced this and doesn’t know what to do next.

This is Queens Field office and the interview was in Manhattan NY.

I got a tier to calling me today and she said there’s nothing that can be done and that we need to wait for them to contact us.

Thank you for any lead you may have!

Actual humans work for the USCIS. So, if the officer assigned to your can gets sick, or if they have an emergency, it is normal that no interview happens. You need to work with them to reschedule. There is nothing unusual about your experience.

Thank you for your reply. What was unusual is that we were told that this officer had an emergency, and a new officer is reviewing the case. An hour later they came out and said bad news, we can’t find my files, go home and we will contact you.
Is this usual?

It's just like any other job: if the person who is supposed to conduct the interview is not there, what do you say to the interviewee, esp. if there is some hope that the original officer might come? You assure the interviewee that you are doing something, even if nothing is being done. USCIS is understaffed....means the people working there will say anything to cover, to stall

Let's review the statements one by one:

1. Officer emergency - This is the only statement that is likely true. This happens all the time
2. Another officer reviewing the case - This could be true, because the file could have been assigned to a new officer. But these are complex cases, it is never easy to assign it to another officer on the spot. So, this is likely a false statement.
3. Can't find the files - Based on this statement, means statement 2 above is false. Which also makes this 'can't find files' statement false.

So, ignore statement 2 and 3. Focus on rescheduling the interview.

Thank you 7of9, you are very helpful and what you said makes perfect sense. The question is, how do I get a new interview and when will I get it. I spent 2 days of phone calls, the best info I got was a level 2 officer calling me back yesterday saying there‘s nothing I can do and I need to wait, it could take between 60 days to a year to get a response. Do you have any recommendation what should I do?
Thank you!
