Let me begin by saying that this is the only forum I have come across that has a wealth of information pertaining to various immigration processes and also has knowledgable and helpful active members.
I first came across this site during my research for attaining Naturalization and the process involved and now I am back finding information for my mother's Green Card process via CP.

However, after two hours and 87 pages later scanning through the thread, GC for Parents - AOS and CP - Information Source, I have to say, there really isn't much about CP for parents. Most of it is about AOS for parents or spouse.

Wouldn't it be great to have a thread dedicated strictly for CP for parents and all info. to go along with it???

Timeline for CP for mother in Pakistan:
11/3/2010: Mailed in I-130 and supporting docs.

My reason for this post is that my head is just about ready to explode trying to assess all this information and ready the documents for when NVC contacts us. Regarding Choice of Agent and Address, if my mother names me as her agent, does that mean I have to send in all the required forms/ docs. or can my mother still do that?

Also, If you have to submit Original documents with Form D-230, does NVC return the originals to the applicant to bring to the interview. How does that work??

Its a complicated process, have your mother send all the original required to file with DS-230 to you, and you should be her choice of agent to handle everything on her behalf.
The DS-3032 and I-864 AOS Bill fee email will come at the same time, pay the AOS fee online by check and 3 business day later (Once they get the confirmation for fee payment) you will be able to print the Cover letter with barcode to file with I-864 and required documents. At the same time your mother can fill out DS-3032 and appoint you as a registered agent and send it to NVC from India. So by the time your I-864 will be accepted (usually 2-3 weeks) by NVC they will already have the DS-3032 sent by your mother in the system, without DS-3032 they will not proceed to the next step for IV fee bill (Same payment process as I-864) and once paid you will then send the DS-230 with all the required originals documents. All the originals will be returned on the interview day to your mother after the interview. All she has to take with her is the medical to the interview.

Ahh. That just makes so much more sense now. I was afraid of our originals shipping all over the world and being misplaced.

Will my original Birth Certificate be returned to my mother at the interview as well? Or will that be returned to me?

Ok, now I'm officially confused...on the NVC website, it says,

"The applicant is responsible to bring all required original documents to the interview. Failure to bring all required original documents to the interview may cause delay or denial of the visa."

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3741.html

So how is that possible if NVC has the originals?

namecheckvictim- What you say makes the most sense, but then why is the official NVC website stating this? Have the procedures changed since it's posting?

For some consular posts, originals are not collected in US, this is applicable to those posts, for India however all originals are collected here and handed back at the conclusion of the interview.

Utterly confusing process... i just completed GC for my parents. Please email me direct with specific question and i will try to help. Regarding originals, i submitted mix of originals and copies of required documents. Interview invitation letter indicated that parents need to bring only following
-Passports
-Photos
-Interview Invitation Letter
-Medical exam results

Invitation letter has a very clear checklist of all documents stating if "submitted', 'not applicable' or 'to be submitted'. Whether your local Consulate honors it is a different question.

I called NVC and they confirmed only 4 items are needed. However, i also called Delhi Consulate and they always give monotonous response "Bring ALL originals". So, i sent back originals to India and asked my parents to take for interview. During interview, the officer did ask for Police Certificate original. So, NVC advice of 'only 4 items needed' was incorrect. good luck.
