i would suggest the easy way first...

lets try to meet each and every legislator (or their office worker) and try to educate them about legal immigrants importance and their suffering....

if we are persistant and make them understand the difference between illegal and legal.....i am sure we will get atleast 50% of them on our side...

if that does not work....that will mean that politics is becoming more important than "goodwill for everyone"........we can then decide to fight the battle in a different way...

we need 10-20 people from each state......make a presentation.....and meet all legislators in their state...

please comment if you like/dislike this idea

infact from what i remember this idea belongs to sunjoshi for immigrationportal.com, he was very successful with it...he even has a powerpoint presentation....which he presented to a congressman

I second that

I am always in favor of direct talking IN ADDITION to lobbying. I will do my job in Northern Nevada. We need a document and a presentation to make our case. I will be posting a word document that can be used as a letter to congressman and to the media that makes our case.

I will do that here as well as on immigrationvoice.org where retrogression victims are organizing both for direct effort and for indirect(lobbying) effort.

Feel free to volunteer and participate. And once again, it wont cost you anything if you join and volunteer and contribute your thoughts.

We need motivated thinkers and contributors before we need money. Enroll at immigrationvoice.com

btw i am located in Birmingham, Alabama....and willing to meet legislators from this state (or near to me)....interested people from Alabama please respond.

i am going to lobby :D for this effort in immigrationaportal.com, ISNAmerica.org and immigrationvoice.org ...

i will keep all of you posted.

Dude, what exactly you want to do, you first said lobbying is not needed then you said yes I'll go for lobbying then you said isnamerica etc etc. Suggestion: Some very active members from this forum and elsewhere have come together to form immigrationvoice.com I urge you all to strengthen their effort by using their forums, registering etc. etc.

black_logs.....no offense buddy.....i did not mean that i am against lobbying....but what i mean is that before we can get all that fund....we can do something which does not cost any money...but lot of hard work......and around 500 active people....willing to spare time to meet legislators...

i am participating at isnamerica.org and people there also are liking this idea...

sunjoshi was the one who did this for the first time....hence i mentioned his name...

i am a member of immigrationvoice.org and i am willing to participate in any other ideas...

Techy one thing I know about these guys, they may pretend to be ignorent but the reality is they are not. You meet all of them , but the result is still uncertain. We need to channelize our effort thru right people as they know whom to talk and what to talk. We may waste hrs and hrs talking to these people and sending faxes, but it may not make any difference as we just saw the fate of the bill in Dec.

black_logs.......please pardon my ignorence....but right now i think we do not have enough resource to hire a lobbyist....

any idea how much money is involved?...what are the steps involved in lobbying?...is it totally legal??

That is not a big concern

The article in washingtonpost about the whole lobbying business and Jack Abramoff scandal does not mean that lobbying is going to be any less effective in future or that lawmakers are going to stay away from lobbyist.

It is true that K-street(lobbying in DC) has doubled since 2001. Its perfectly legal to lobby as long as no-one is paying a congressman to get something done.

Jack Abramoff scandal exposes the illegal deals going on. It does not any negative impact on the lobbying business done legally and for a legit cause.

Any specific reason why you sent private message

Hi black_logs,

Any specific reason why you the information that techy2468 cannot be shared in public. I am also interested in knowing the details.

Also is the money tax deductibles?
Can my company contribute(I can ask my employer to contribute with the understanding that it would come out of my pay check - deducted from gross - need not have to be reflected in the pay stub - as I work on percentage)
