Washington DC Office I-485 Processing Time

Does anyone know how long does the Washington DC office take to process I-485, after the case is transferred there from the Nebraska Service Center? My ND is Dec/99 and my case was transferred to the DC office last month. According to the USCIS website, the DC office is now processing applications that were received in April/2004. If that is the case, it will take them a couple of more years to process my case. I'm getting really sick of this, they seem to be approving cases that they received in June/July of 2000!

Will appreciate any information you can provide.

Hi Gino,

Do not lose it man; I am in the same shoes like you (well, somewhat). My case with an ND May 2000 was sent to my local office too, only that their processing time is around Jan 2005. I really do not know if we will have to get in line or be treated differently. I decided to forget about it, and until I get an answer, I am not going to let it get my sanity.

Hi Gino,

You said DC office is processing I-485 case transferred to them by April 2004. How did you know this timeline? I assumed you referred to the date posted on USCIS website for DC district office. If that was how you knew the date, please note: that date is not relevant to your case!

I have filed a employment-based I-485 in addition to my asylum-based. My both cases are still pending. In recent years, a lot of employment-based cases have been transferred to local offices for processing, so I've been closely watching the threads created for I-485 cases transferred to local offices. You can find the threads at http://www.immigrationportal.com/forumdisplay.php?f=168. Of course, they are for employment-based cases, but I GUESS asylum-based cases would be handled in the same queue once transferred to local.

Back to the time line issue. For a long time I thought the same thing as you did -- the i-485 dates posted for district offices apply to all the cases transferred to those offices. Until a couple of months ago, a guy posted a message said that he asked CIS and found out that those dates are for the I-485 cases submitted directly to the local offices, such as family-based I-485s. The dates have nothing to do with transferred cases. And they don't post dates for transferred cases. The best way to get a clue on the timeline for your transferred case will be the threads I mentioned above, assuming asylum-based cases are handled in the same queue as employment-based cases once transferred. I'm afraid that I'm not giving you any good news, but probably more accurate information.

Hi Gino,

One more thing, I understand how anxious you must be. I'm, too, as both my cases are still pending. But I'm always trying to do what bringslite said in his/her post. I'd like to say to you that be patient and keep up your faith that your case will be approved. If you want to be more proactive, I'm sure you can find out from those threads about how to get more information on your case by contacting your senator, etc. Wish we all good luck.
