Want to work abroad...keeping Green Card valid

Hi all,

I've seen a few posts on here about this but none quite like it.
I've filed my I-751 and I'm waiting for that to be processed.

I'm an Irish citizen and my husband is a U.S citizen. We have been thinking about going to Ireland in two years time so that he can do some research (he's a physician and went to med school there) and I can have some time with my family. We fully intend to settle here in the U.S but want to do this in the meantime.

The ideal length of time for him to spend there would be a year but I think I've seen that I have to reside in the U.S for six months of the calender year in order to keep my Green Card. Is this true?

Keeping my Green Card valid is my number one priority and we will only go for as long as that allows us. I'm assuming I'll have my permanent green card before 2 years time.

Ireland has no rules regarding dual citizenship so my citizenship will still be valid and my husband will have no problem working there as he's married to an Irish citizen.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
