walk-in FP experience in Charlotte

Hopefully this info may be helpful for some folks.

Hi, my friends,
My FP appointment date will be on Dec. 6th in Charlotte, NC. I went there around 2 and got my FP done this afternoon (Dec.2). NO trouble at all. It seems it will not speed up the process but the weekend is a better time for me. Walk-in FP is definitely doable. The lady made a comment that they won't let people without FP notice in but as long as you have it, it's good to go. The lady who did my FP told me they're a contractor for USCIS so what they do doesn't seem to affect the application process but she did tell me my EAD card would arrive within a week.
A quick question: I'm an F-1 student (graduate student working as teaching assistant). Do I need to use EAD when I receive it? how will EAD be useful? I applied for it just in case I need it. I would appreciate your kind help. Thanks.
I guess the next step will be the interview letter and date. hehe.

Congrats, Lily! It's good to know that it's doable. Well, I don't have a notice at all, so I don't know about my own situation...

About your EAD: when you get it, show it to your HR person. I think the only way it's gonna affect you is your taxes - I assume you're not paying sosial security now, well, you will be with the EAD. Your I-9 will still be the same - "legal alien allowed to work". When you get your green card, you'll need to change your I-9 also - it's very important. Talk to your HR people, they should know all this stuff.

Good luck! :)

BTW - don't believe what the lady at the ASC told you about the EAD. She has no idea when/how it will be processed. I've heard about people being told this story about "EAD in a week" before, and its untrue. You'll get your EAD around 80-90 days after the date on your Notice of Action.
