Walk-in Biometrics question

hi there,

for you guys who did a walk-in, i've got several questions that you hopefully could help me with:

1. do you have to call if you want to do a walk-in to see if they have an available slot?
2. do you have to go to the USCIS location on you Biometrics appointment or can you go to a different one.

See, it is hard for me to get a day off to go to my appointment day unless I use one of my Paid-Time off which I do not want to because I was saving it for Christmas week. Although, there is 1 day every two weeks where I can get off at 2PM, so I am planning to do a walk-in during one of those days.

Also, I live across town from my work and takes me about 35-40 minutes to get home. So I was hoping to go to a USCIS location near my work not the one near my house which is probably what the Biometrics would tell me.

Not sure if you can call (there isnt usually any number listed for the ASC, at least not on my appointment letter).

You can obviously re-schedule. Just send back the appointment notice asking for a new schedule. Instructions can be found on the form.

The walk-ins are usually a hit or miss (based on what I have read from others on here). It will depend on your ASC. If your ASC is close enough there isn't any harm trying. Worst case, they will turn you away and tell you to come back on your day of the appointment :-)

No need to call if you do walk-in. Just go and ask if they would let you do the biometrics. When I did mine, the place was empty so I got lucky. You need to go to the ASC stated on your letter.

Don't call. They don't know how busy they will be when you arrive, so they're more likely to tell you NO on the phone. Better to show up, and they'll decide based on how busy they are at the time.

You can reschedule, but rescheduling is risky. Sometimes they deny people for failing to show up even though they requested a reschedule, or they end up still waiting for a new appointment 6 months later.

Good to know. Reading the instructions on the appointment letter makes you feel that re-scheduling is a routine thing. Apparently not. Thanks for that piece of info

yeah! I believe is just better to do a walk in than trying to re-schedule... I hear some people got a I485 denied because USCIS say they fail to appear for fingerprints ( and they did request for re-schedule). So better safe go and walk in!
Good Luck!
