My wife is scheduled to have her I-485 interview in late October. She may need to have an oversea's trip before her interview date, and it seems impossible to get I-131 approved in a normal application process soon. Does INS office (Charlotte, NC) have walk-in application service which is faster and get an AP application approved in the same day?

Also if her I-485 interview is through and she gets her passport stamped, does she still need I-131 application for a travel document? or she can travel overseas and come back with the stamped passport ?

The only way you can get an AP from a district office is if it is for an emergency, and by emergency I mean "death in the family" type emergencies.

If she gets the I-551 stamp at AOS interview, she can travel on that as its equivalent to a Green Card.

are there other types of emergencies other than "death in the family" ? how about serious illness etc.. that can help the walk-in advance parole application ?
