I'm married to a USC and currently holds a 2yr temp GC. I know that I'm allowed to apply for 10yr GC 90days before my expiration date (or something similar to that line...), but how long would I have to wait until I actually get my 10yr card in my hand?
I'm just asking in general. Of course, there are always cases where it may be delayed or otherwise but I'm just looking for an answer that will just give me some idea..

There is wide variation with the I-751 processing. Expect anything between 2 months and a year.

Jackolantern, thanks for the reply.
Why is there such a wide variation? Is it because some I-751 applications ask for an interview and that some don't? What else could lead to a longer waiting time? Just curious.

You can expect your 10 yr green card within 2 to 6 months. There is no specific time limit as the USCIS may request additional information ( RFE - Request for evidence) if it is not satisfied with those that are sent by you. Biometrics can also be delayed if the fingerprints are not cleared by the FBI. In such cases you will be asked to take another fingerprinting test.

So does that mean if no RFE is issued and the FP gets cleared by FBI at one shot than GC can arrive in 2 - 4 months time. I was just curious since I mailed my i751 application past Friday and the check has not been cahsed yet. Also I am planning to travel in Christmas.

Within the next 1 month you will get the extension letter that extends your GC for a year, so you'll still be able to travel during Christmas even if they don't approve your I-751 this year.
