Waiting period N-400 Chicago, IL

Hello there,

I have a question regarding waiting period for citizenship.
My husband sent his N-400 application at the beginning of October 2003. He lives in Chicago and was told to mail his application to Omaha, NE. Two weeks later he got a letter saying that they received an application and it will take about 350-374 days to process that kind of application.

When he checks the status online, it says the same thing as in the letter he received.

When we check (per example this site http://immigration.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://shusterman.com/aos.html ) it says that they are processing the applications received in 2004.

What should we do? When he called they did not tell him anyway. If anything was wrong, they would've contact him already.

Does anybody knows what is happening? Are they just so busy or what?

Thank you all.

From previous posts, Chicago is pretty fast. There have been people in this forum who completed the whole process in 9 months. Call the customer service number, if you do not get any help get your Congressman involved. Was he finderprinted?

Thank you for your response.
He sent his application, got only a letter stating:

Your N400 APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was received on October 3, 2003. We mailed you a receipt with information about processing. It is taking between 370 and 385 days for us to process this kind of case. We will mail you a decision as soon as processing is complete.

If you have questions or concerns about your application or the case status results listed above, or if you have not received a decision or advice from the BCIS within the projected processing time frame*, please contact the National Customer Service Center.

National Customer Service Center (800) 375-5283

He called that number and the person on the phone said the same thing as it said on the letter.
He does not have a criminal record or anything, does not even have a speeding ticket.

What should we do? They did not even ask for the fingerprints yet.

Thank you.

You should start calling the customer service, also mail a letter to your service center and include a copy of the letter you received. You should also contact your congressman. There is a good possibility that the file might have been misplaced/lost. Normally, fingerprints are scheduled within 3 months of receiving the application by the service center.

Would you know the telephone number for congresman; Do we have to call one in Chicago, Il or Omaha, NE?
Thank you very much.

http://www.aila.org. Type in your zip code on the left hand side (where it says contact congressman on immigration issues) and that will give you your elected officials.
