Waiting for Receipt notice for more than a week? any ideas why?

Hi,

I would like know your thoughts on how long it takes to get the check for 485 to get deposited into the bank and how long to get the receipt notices from Nebraska service center, i have filed for only 485 app? my first attempt at 485 to ins got bounced back with "check with wrong amount" reply from ins. I wrote the check for more amount than needed. ofcourse i am going through a lawyer:)
i sent the app back with right check and it's over a week now , i have not seen my check deposited with my bank. My past experience with h1 and h4 visas says they do it within 2-3 days . i wonder why this is not so in my 485 case. could you share your thoughts on this.

Hi.
If you have online access to the bank, I think you can check there to see if your check clearned the system. The bank typically post a GIF file of your check (front and back). This is actually how I found out that NSC took my money. Someone from this forum also told me that NSC typically prints out your receipt # on the back of your check (where the deposit stamp is printed).

If you are going through an attorney, he/she will get the receipt and the attorney would forward to you either the original or the copy. Of course, I had to nag my lawyer for a crude fax copy because I needed to file my EAD and AP. Although I have not gone through this and can't vouch for it personally, I also read somewhere in this forum that some immigration inspectors would ask you for a copy of your I-485 receipt at the port of entry (and even EAD in some cases).

Thank you for your information. i have checked with my bank online
they have not yet cleared the check that's what concerns me most.
i can wait for receipt notices but i think check is most imp thing ins worry most and process fast as per their web site. :(
