I have filed (03-23-2006), fingerprinted (04-20-2006) and interviewed (06-08-2006)in the Norfolk office for Naturalization.
Along with my application a close friend had also applied for naturalization and gone threw all the same steps after me and received documentation for their Oath Ceremony to be in July of 2006.

I just figured I would give it some time, since all applications are different. I recently checked my naturalization status online and it cannot be located. This had raised a little concern, I had then proceeded to call the number provided for National Customer Service Center (1-800-375-5283) which didn't have any info on file either, and transferred me to another helpful representative who actually was able to access my information and told me to contact the person who interviewed me in regards. In October of 2006 I wrote him a letter in which I asked if there was anything I can provide or do to help the process. I received a letter within a week stating that my case has been delayed and if I do not hear anything within 6 months to contact their customer service again. So i patiently waited and 6 months later i contacted the senator and USCIS. Since then I have been calling every 60 days as I am asked to do and still have not received any notifications.

A little background on me: I was born in Canada in 1977 and have been living in the United States as a permanent resident with a Resident Alien card since 11/17/1980 and have held many high security jobs which require extensive background checks (Continental Airlines, Wachovia Securities, and SunTrust Bank loss prevention). My last trip overseas was to Pakistan back in the summer of 1989.

Supposidly i am held up in the name check part of the FBI backround check.

I would like to know if there is anything I can do to help the process of me getting naturalized complete. I recently went on a writing spree and have sent correspondence to the white house, vice pres, Governor, local news and others. I am now at a stand still and don't know what else i can do. I am in Richmond, VA

??? THE QUESTION ?????

I am wanting to get married overseas.. most people are telling me to wait, do yall have insight?

At the end of the interview you recieved a form N652, is it marked on Pending, Continue or Congratulations, if it is marked Congrats you should file a lawsuit in a civil court because they are suppose to give you an answer within 120 Days of interview, i suggest hiring an attorney.

Wrong. It does not have to have a "congrats" for you to file a suit under 1447 b. 120 days after "examination: is good enough to sue USCIS. It looks like da-nteg's security checks are not done. Having travelled to Pakistan (even though it is not classed as a "state sponsor of terror') may have flagged an additional security check (like a CIA check).

Remedy is to sue USCIS for them to compel to take action.

And don't use the stupid online system to see your status. It's rarely ever accurate as many on here can attest to (even the INS at the 1-800 will tell you it's never properly maintained). Many like myself were never even entered in there so don't stress about that part.

As for the rest, if you're stuck in the name check you just have to wait it out. How long total has it been since the interview now? Seems you've written the congressmen etc which is good. No I would not advise going over seas to marry right now. Bring the spouse to the US to do it or wait till you get your USC. It may cause issues when you try and re-enter the US which you don't want. Also your spouse would have to apply for a visa I think to even get into the US after marriage which complicates things even more...

Due to my last call i rcvd a letter last night... same letter i get after i call.

USCIS said:
The status of this request is:

Your application is pending due to the security checks. Once your security checks have cleared, the service will continue to process your application.

its been a little over a month since ive last posted.

I went to this conference a few weeks ago and spoke to some extemely nice people. I talk to two ladies who were in a booth from Department of Homeland Security and some recruiters from the FBI. I stated my case to them (i knew they coudnt help) to see if they might know something or someone i could speak with in regards. Well since my trip i sent a few more letters out and made a million more calls.

***Update***
I no longer care. The system has beat me and seriously effected my life. I dont think i am getting married anymore, the bride to be, just doesnt want to wait anymore. Unless i miracolously rcv a letter for my oath within the next few days, its a done deal.

Oath - This info my help you....

Hello,
We filed paperwork for me and my wife. Everything went smoothly and timely but my wife got interview call before a day. The lady who took her interview was very nice and polite. she said you should get a letter for oath within 1-2 ---- weeks ---- next day when I went, my interviewer was so (so so so) rude and he did not even offer me to seat for 5 min. After 5 min he said 'Now you can sit' he started immidiatly and I was done with my interview within 2 min.
He said 'you can go now.. leave the door open... you should get you oath letter within 2-3 ---months---'. I thought just to be safe he said 2-3 month.

Anyway, after 1 week my wife got oath letter for Oct 07 and I keep waiting till today. I tried all the methods to contact USCIS (infopass, phone, website) but failed.

finally I went to my local USCIS office. I reached their at 11.30 and the security argued with me and told me not to come without infopass interview scheduled. I explained him and at last he said he will go and talk to the same officer who took my interview. Luckly, we was not there and he was suppose to be back after lunch at 1.30
I went there again at 1.30 and he was not there. by mistake, instead of my reference papers (interview letter), I gave my wife's letter and the other security office went inside and after 2-3 min., to my suprise, that lady came who took my wife's interview. She said my file is still here and for some unknown reason it did not moved forward. She promised that she will schedule my interview on 12th oct and Ishould get a letter within 4-5 days.

Can you believe it......

da-nteg,
Why don't you file a lawsuit? You've done all the footwork already, got tons of supporting documents.

Just called today and they gave me the address for the field director. I will attempt this and if i dont hear anything by year end, i will file the lawsuit. I have made my decision.

the girl overseas didnt want to wait it out, so im single because of this freaking system. I have had enough of this.

On another note... my parents and sister have applied and intervied and have taken thier oath. 6 out of 7 people in my family are citizens. (3 youngest siblings born in the U.S.) WOOHOOOO for them :)

You are wasting your time by delaying the inevitable. At the end of the year when you do file, you will regret that you wasted so much time. You are eligible to sue after 120 days of interview, as per the law. You are fooling yourself by thinking writing to anyone is going to help. There are thousands of people stuck in security checks. Several thousand americans are stuck in terrorist watch lists including a 2 year old child (refer to this week's USA today front page article). Not even letters from congressmen makes a difference. Why do you think a letter from you to the field director will make a difference?
