My attorney filed I-140 and I-485 for me and my wife concurrently in the first week of June 2004 at CSC. He recieved I-140 reciept and I-485 for my wife in the 2nd week of June 2004. It has been over 2 months and still no clue about my I-485 reciept. Attorney says that USCIS doesn't send the reciept again if it is lost in the mail (wierd, since I-140, I-485 were sent in the same package). He also says to get the copy of front and back of the I-485 filing fee check since WAC # may be there, but I don't see any number in WAC # like format.

Is there any way to find out the I-485 reciept # from USCIS ??

Suggestions ?????

Your attorney is wrong, USCIS do send receipts.

call 800 no and ask them to send receipt which is never received.

ask ur attorney to get copy of check USCIS cashed. this is big proof. send this copy along with request to TSC by mail. ask to send receipt. write ur address clear and big. they would re-send. hurryup and do not waste ur time.
this is receipt they will re send. if approval is lost that is re-produced by filling I-824 duplicate for approval. but receipt they will send. and in many cases they did send. don't worry.

one of my friend did not get RFE becasue they miss typed the address... it returned to them back and atlast it was resent with origional envelope which was returned to them.

Dont sit back and wait .......keep continue ur effort.....if two month past and nothing happen (I hope u will get receipt). rewrite this thread.
I will tell u how to get using congressman/senator help.

One of person shared thread that the comp never give the receipt to him. he contact to cong/sen and they helped to get the receipt/dup

but first do exactly what is written above cong/sen is last effort.

for cong/sen http://house.gov to find ur local cong/sen

trust me u will get receipt. be confident and continue ur effort instead sit and trust on ur attorney.

Good Luck

According to my experience, USCIS does NOT resend receipts (or it is really difficult to make them to resend a receipt). I have never got mine... I submitted 3 I-485 applications, 3 APs and 2 EADs, all in one package, and they managed to send all the receipts and approvals to the correct address except one - somehow they sent my I-485 receipt to the old address from my I-140. When I called TSC (it was a good old time when you could call TSC directly), the representative told me that they will not resend it. A friend of mine was in the same situation, but he was able to convince them to send him at least some kind of officialy looking paper with receipt # (printed on plain white paper, not a form I-797).
Although they DO resend FP notices, RFE etc (also based on my experience - my FP notice originally went to the wrong address too).

But don't worry too much - you do not really need a 485 receipt. As long as you know your receipt #, and have an evidence of your status (EAD works as proof of status), you are good. The receipt # should be on your cleared check, even if "WAC" letters are missing - try to find 10-digit number on the check - look at both - front and back. When I applied for 2nd EAD, I printed out web-page with online status to attach to the application instead of I-485 receipt, and it worked. I would not spend a lot of efforts to get an actual receipt - definetly does not worth it. What do you need this receipt for anyway?
Of course, if you could not find your receipt #, do something - perhaps your attorney can initiate an inquiry to the SC. Or you can go to your local CIS office, and they can send an inquiry for you too...

If USCIS mistyped address the envlp would have been returned to them sitting in file. they will correct address and resend. if lost in mail there is still chances in some circumtence NSC did issue lost receipts. check the murthy.com ,use search.

If he strugle and if luck he would get it, or atleast he would know the receipt #. to check status online.

Good Luck
