i am a foreign medical school graduate and applied to change my B1 to immigrant status last february after i got married to my us citizen husband. the payment checks have cleared but i have received no receipt yet from INS in Phoenix, AZ and i am worried about my upcoming application for medical residencies. i don't even know what they call my immigration status at this point.

please advice me on what i can do to speed up the processing and what i need to do for my residency application.

If you have submitted I-485, your status is "permanent residence pending."
 
yup!

i have already submitted my I-485. do employers (in my case, hospitals) usually have a problem with this visa status (permanent residence pending) specifically if there is no written proof of such except for copies of the I-485?

how long does it usually take for them (INS) to process anyway?
