Free at last!

Let the freedom ring! Looks like the FBI is clearning cases filed in the summer of 2003. Hope those of us awaiting security clearances will hear the good news soon too.

Sorry for the misclicking!

Hi, ruiyi,
I tried to ask some info from u about whether or not u have gone through the detailed review/name check. But I misclicked ther "return" so the posting above just has a title. My case actually is earlier than urs (my wac# is wac03071xxxxx, RD: Dec. 2002). My case is undertaking name check and I haven't got any feedback from my inquiry to FBI. The CSC initiated my name check on March 8, 2003, and it's still pending there... I'm gradually losing my patience since I don't know where, how I can know the status. I followed all the ways other applicants ever did, such as asking help from senator, sending email/mail to FBI. THERE IS NO RESPONSE BACK.
Anyway, congratulations to u for ur freedom and enjoy it from now on. Have a great day!

You are indeed an old timer. When did you sent your postal mail to FBI? I sent mine on 2/19 and haven't heard anything. I think more and more people are taking this route nowdays thus FBI has delayed responding.

i did go through the infamous lenthy FBI background check, but I only knew this after I did the fp in Jan. Before I thought the name check was initated after the fp was done. Anyway, I sent the email and letter to FBI to inquiry my name check status at the begining of Feb and still haven't heard from them. I also seeked the assistance from my local congressman's office. The lady there is really helpful and got the status for me from FBI. Guess what, USCIS sent the name check request to FBI on 6/20/03 but FBI received the error message and they didn't bother to ask USCIS to resubmit the request. So the error message sit there for almost two years until I did the enquiry through congressman. That lady at the congressman's office talked to USCIS Washington office and asked them to resumbit the request on 2/15/05. This time was a breeze and no more mistake occured (god bless me). Then two weeks later my case was approved. I don't know what to say... USCIS and FBI are both extremely bureautic agencies. I wish people work there knew that a careless mistake they made could be a disater for gc applicants and their families. good luck for you and everybody still waiting.

peaceinheart,
i'm sorry to hear about your story. although you finally got approved, have you thought about suing the FBI/USCIS for the suffering you had due to their absent-mindedness?

congrats ruiyu25!!

ruiyu25 can u share any info on what the error message was?
as i understand it: uscis submits a set of names on a tape/disc and this tape/disc is sent to fbi... the individual results are downloaded by uscis... any formatting errors in the names submitted to fbi are returned to uscis.. (assuming that someone will process this error :)) i have also read about a case where the name didn't make it to the tape/disc..

I don't know what the error messege is as FBI didn't specify it to my congressman's office. Looks like that nobody at FBI handled the error of my case.

I don't know if it makes you feel better that there are people who applied before you and also waiting for that stupid name check. I applied in November 2002, in November 2004 was told by lady on CSC emergency line that my case is waiting for FBI name check since February 2003. I sent emails to FBI in November, January and February. Send regular letters to Hooton and Hardy in January and February. No responce. Two senators (Boxer and Feinstein) and 2 congressmen (one our local and one where my boss has a friend working in the congressman's office) sent requests to FBI. The answer was "case is pending". I am thinking about sending a letter to president Bush, I hope FBI should not ignore his request.

How does name check get initiated?

Till now,i have read about name check but i do not know if name check is done for every one who has applied for GC.

How to find out if our file has been sent for name check?
