VSC won't do status check any more

I called up VSC a few minutes back and talked to a nice and friendly lady.
I wanted to find out if my name/security check has been cleared. She was polite and friendly but very strongly refused to do so.
She said that VSC doesn't do status check any more. I told her it's not a status check but want to see if my name check has been cleared but once again she refused.
She told me to go back to the main menu (on the call) and press option 6 after option 2 and check with National Service Center.
It looks like the POJ trick to find out name check status is fast coming to a demise.
Anyone had any luck in the recent few weeks?

I called them last week. I was automatically transferred to NSC. The CSR wasn't sure about name check status but she said my case is well on track on 6 months timeframe defined by USCIS. My name check was sent to FBI on 6/17/2006.
