I just got a denial decision for my naturalization because I was so naive to registration and voted before naturalization.
In 2019, When my ex husband got his 2019 voter card, he told me that I was allowed to vote because I got the ID card already. At that moment, I just moved in to the US about 3 months, I was very limited in English, had to use dictionary all the time so I really did not know much about the law here. Some days later, My ex took me to the election department and he had a conversation about my situation with people working there , I did not understand what exactly they discussing about. Then he told me to show them my ID card. They gave me a paperwork. He told me to put personal information in, and because I did not understand what the paperwork talking about so he pointed me to put information in the places that I allowed to fiil in. then I voted in the 2019 Federal election and I thought everyone who hold ID card must vote, In 2024: I received a mail with a voter card was sent to my new house, I still believed that I need to do it and never doubted about it. Because of my working time, I decided to do early vote. After voting a week, I found out that permanent citizens are not allowed to vote. I hurry to go to the election department to ask them for canceling my vote. They let me filed the cancellation form.
i had answered Yes in Voting question in the form N400 and provided all the evidences. I passed the test but was Denied citizenship because of Good Moral Character. I was so stupid when doing what my ex telling me to do without any question. Believe me, I did not try to cheat to vote. I have no reason to do that. I thought my ex is an American so he knew the rules but it seems not.
The Denial letter said that For the reason above , I am ineligible for naturalization at this time.
The following paragraph, it said:lif you believe that you can overcome the grounds for this denial, you may summit a request for a hearing on form N336.
I am really scary now. All my life, I always try to do right things and be a good person. By unknowingly actions above, I become not Good Moral Character. It is really hurtful Inside.
I don’t know what is waiting for me in the future. Do anybody go through this situation recently , please let me know what is going on .
What should I do is the best for this situation.? Please help. All advices are welcome.
Thank you for reading (Sorry for any mistakes, my English is still not good but at least I can describe my thoughts)

One of the biggest crime in a democratic country is to vote for an elected official when you are not a citizen.
Not just US but a lot of other democratic countries.
Ignorance of the law of land in not valid in court.

As a new immigrant person, at that time, I pioritied to learn English, learn to get driving license, tried to adapt with the new environmen. I went through a lot up and down since some first months moving here with my ex, I was not allowed to go to work, my son and I were suffered a lot from mental and physical abuse. We had to go to the shelter because of domestic violence at the first Christmas and New Year after 5 months moved to the US while I had no where to go, no job, no car, no friends , no relative, no good English, no hope for life….Too much going on at that moment to try to make a crime by voting. After that, I had to deal with fighting for my freedom, got divorce then I could go to work, could live a normal life, not a prisoner life in a bad marriage. Besides working hard to be able to stand on my foot and take care for my son, I also slowly picked up the knowledge about the Law of the Land but I did not research about who can vote because I believed it was legal must do responsibty. I know my Ignorance cause me a big biter lesson but I can not redo it. I have to face it and move forward.
