Voter Registration

It has been almost a year and a half since I was naturalized. I never registered as a voter, partly because the exciting presidential election was already over and I had little interest in choosing between the carnival barkers and sideshow freaks that were running for minor league office in my district.

My question to you, esteemed gurus, is: ethics and morality aside, did I do anything wrong in the legal sense by not registering?

There is nothing wrong on your part except for the fact that you are not making use of an esteemed right that is conferred on US citizens. I would advise you to register as soon as possible so that you cna cast your vote in the next elections. Who knows, one single vote can change a government!

I believe your chances of getting pulled on Jury Duty increases if you register to vote.

Is it true? I didn't sent my Voter Registration card yet. I may not send my application if it increases the chance to get called for a Jury Duty.

Do you have an accent? Do you understand written and oral English well enough to serve in the jury? ;) Your understanding of English language is a subjective thing, but your accent is very well objective, so it is an easy way out of jury duty. Not registering to vote because of fear to be enlisted in the jury is just silly. No offence.

Yes, they pull jury lists from a variety of sources. Voter registration and DMV records are the biggest sources. Again, this depends on county to county; but that is the general trend. But as someone pointed out, you should still register to vote. There are many reasons you can cite to get out of jury duty even if you are called.
