visitor visa rejected

My mother in-law had an interview on monday dec 15th for the visitor visa at US consulate, New delhi and they rejected it .

These were the reasons they gave:

1. evidence of income & financial resource your income

we already sent the affidavit of support which had the required bank documents and the letter from the employer showing the salary. Well, they wanted the tax returns to be attached only if my husband were self employed and as he is not we didn't include the tax returns

2. they need the kind of visa you are working on

My husband has green card but we didnt include the copy of Green card or stamping on the passport as no where in the documentation for the visitor visa it stated they needed it

3.affidavit of support is missing
We had included the notarized affidavit of support along with the bank statement and employment letter

My father-in-law is 60+...so he applied through the drop box. But we are under an impression that they will reject his visa too as his application has the same documents.

Can somebody provide an insight what went wrong here?
Should we have included the tax returns and the green card photocopy?

Will it now be difficult for them to get the visa as they have been rejected once?? Or its not a matter to worry they can get the visa later on? Is someone there who has faced such a situation where they were rejected visa once and got it later on?

Can we apply the visa again in 2-3 weeks? We will be goin to india on jan 1st so we are planning to take them along to the delhi US consulate. Would that be a problem?

All inputs highly appreciated. Thanks

1. evidence of income & financial resource your income

This question is regarding financial resources of your mother-in-law, not you or your husband. The consulate needs to know that she has source(s) of income in India that acts as an incentive to return.

2. they need the kind of visa you are working on

Consulate wants documentary proof of sponsor's status in the US. It is always good to include a copy of your husband's green card AND copies of ALL pages of his passport.

You can ask them to apply again after you send the required documents, including tax returns. One time rejection is not a disqualification for re-applying. Also include the rejection letter with the new application
