My inlaws are having visitor visa appointment in chennai in september. My wife is not working, so I am sending the sponsorship papers.
Could someone who has gone through this please answer :

I hv money in CDs and various savings accounts. Do I need to show money in checking and if yes how much ?

My fatherinlaw is working in a bank and has a daughter studying in india, he has leave approval for only 1 month, so will his visa be issued for only one month? What is the minimum time frame they will issue visa for?

Thanks in advance for all answerers

Ok to start with what will actually happen no one can predict.

Now based on past experience no you do not need alot of money in your checking account, but it is supposed to be money that is easily available. If you look at the I-134 form it asks for money in savings/cds as well as checking. How much? well is should be sufficient to provide and cover for whatever you promise in the I-134.

It is okay you can sponsor your in-laws that is what happend in my case.
The visa can be given for few months ( there have been visas for 3 days as well) validity to 10 yrs, it is all visa officer's decision. But in general it is usually its longer time duration.
