My mother-in-law got the visa without any problems during yesterday's language interview @ Chennai.

I am not sure about the visa duration, will update after confirming with her.

I found more information in path2usa than here. So if you have any doubts/questions check there.

Following are the documents she carried to the embassy. I was the only sposorer and completed the DS-156 myself and mailed to her.

not required

I filled it but didn't send that to her. She is 57 years old.

It is mentioned in the B1-B2 (Business-Tourist).pdf

3. Original visa application form DS-157 only if you are 15-55 years of age.

This is a recent change in their process.

asnssf,

How about DS-157 form. Did you had to fill it.

Thanks.

Thanks asnssf.

One more question...The birth affidavit for your wife was that taken in India or in the US. I have an affidavit from my parents (taken in India) which I got for my GC filing a couple of years back. Not sure if I can use that.

Thanks again.

you can use the same

That affidavit was from India only which I have got to file 485..

Hi,

My in-laws are scheduled for an interview for Nov 15th. Did you get the letter to your mother-in-law notarized as I heard it needs to be notarized due to the recent changes?

Thanks

Mahesh

why?

Are you kidding ? Is that the letter inviting to visit us ? I just sent to her with my original sign.

I don't think it is required..

VO decides fully on the interview answers whether to grant/deny visa to an applicant. Thats what happened to my MIL.

If you see my document list, 'Letter to MIL' was the last item. Bcas I felt it wouldn't make any impression to VO.

Prepare them well for the interview; Most of the time, following 4 questions were asked to many applicants;

Why are you going?
Who is there ?
What are you doing here ?
How many kids you have, where are they ?

Refer path2usa for more questions.

My MIL and friend's Mom were asked the above 4 questions. My MIL got the visa. Unfortunately my friend's Mom was denied since my friend is the only son.

I don't think it is required to notarize.. but its upto you.
