Visitor visa for parents question

Hello folks,

My question is do I need a valid h1 stamping on my passport for the visitor visa? I have my old h1 visa which expired in june and I have my new 797 valid for next two years. Do I need to get my new visa stamping done and then send the visa photocopy?
