Visitor Visa - Error

1. My Dad visited us about 5 years ago. He did not overstay and he got I94 for 6 months.
2. At that time 10 year visa was common. looks like there was an error in dates and the date interval in the visa was only for 2 months. But still at the POE he was given 6 months.
3. Because of this error we are sponsoring again and he has a interview scheduled for May 23rd.

I have 2 questions.

1. Would they fix the error and not interview him?
2. He is 85 years old and has difficulty in hearing. Can he take an escort along with for the interview?
3. Is Insurance mandatory?
4. What are his chances of getting a visa?
5. What kind of questions do they ask? I am green card holder.

Thanks all for your answers. It would help me a lot.

It looks like to me that your dad got only a two month visa, not that uncommon even 5 yrs ago.

The stamp gave him a window within which to enter the USA. The length of stay is determined at POE indicated by stamp on I-94 ( 6 months in his case). So he did not overstay nor was there any error.

To visit agin he needs a new visa which you are sponsoring for him.

As to escort you will have to email the consulate and ask them.

Insurance is not manadatory for getting the visa. Infact you will not buy it before the trip anyways. It is only for your own protection. Considering your father's age it might be prudent to get it, just in case he needs medical attention during his trip and you dont have money set aside for such scenario.

Chances are as good as anyone else and will depend on your circumstances and his ability to demonstrate ties to his home country.

One more question waitin_toolong

I have 1 more question for you waitin_toolong.

1. Given that my father has been to the US once before and lso because of his age, I was wondering if he would be eligible to use the Drop Box.

Let me know.
Thanks for our help.

hmmm.. I thought those who are 78 or older can use the drop box. As of summer 2004, this was the rule.

Did the rule change recently?

That's right. I was referring to the same July/Sep 2004 timeframe. I thought the drop box concept ended for all except those that are 78 or older. Earlier it was like 60yr cut off I think.
