Visitor visa approved for 1 yr at mumbai

My parents had an interview at mumbai consulate on 3rd nov and were granted visa. The passports were delivered at home in 2 days and were stamped with 1 yr multiple entry visa. I have never heard of 1 yr visa before.. Is this a new trend ?

I am a GC holder for past 4 yrs and my husband also is a GC holder. My parents were asked following question :

Who else is in your house ?
Dad : I have a young son at home.

then the officer asked for my GC copy and passport copy. Thats it.

If they come 1 month before the visa expiry, should they be given 6 months visa or should they request so at the POE.. anyone has any experience ?

What's wrong with 1 year multiple entry visa? Its up to the consular officer, they can issue it for 3 months or 6 months or up to 10 years...

Usually at POE they do not give I-94 past visa expiry date. But you can always ask... Good luck.
