Hello guys,

My parents had been rejected the visitor visa first time at Mumbai Consulate without looking at a single document. Read this thread about the earlier rejection http://boards.immigrationportal.com/showthread.php?threadid=77788

But I'm glad to inform you that they were lucky this time, last Thursday (12th June) they appeared for the interview at Mumbai Consulate again and were granted a visitor visa for 1 year. :)

The only document the officer (actually the hindi translator) looked at was the financial support affidavit that I had prepared for my mother and father.

I had sent a new set of paystubs, invitation/consulate letters, 2002 tax return, affidavits. The only difference I made in all the documents was about the period of stay. I changed it to 3 months from 6 months. In addition to these documents, they had my birth certificate, property documents, bank passbooks and property affidavit.

Questions asked : (M for mother and F for father)

Q. Why was your visa rejected last time?

A. Honestly we don't know, they didnt look at any of our documents.

Q. Are you going to come back?

A. Yes.
(M) I have a job here. We are going to stay in the US for 3 months only.

Q. What do you do?

A. (M) work as a highschool teacher
(F) retired, receive pention.

Q. How much do you earn?

A. (M) Rs. 6000/-
(F) Rs. 4000/-

Q. Family information

A. Two sons, one works in the US, another in India.

Q. How much does the US-based son earn?

A. xxK per annum.

Then he carefully looked at the affidavit.

Q. Where are you going to stay in the US.

A. xxxxx, XX

After this, he said, we are going to give you a visa for 1 year.

Thank god!

Finally thanks to this forum! thanks for all the help!

Good luck!

Did you prepare the financial support affidavit in US & notarize here ? - basically was it an affidavit indicating your financial status or your parents?

Yes, i had prepared separate affidavits for my mother and father showing my financial status and got them notarized at my bank. This was the only document the consulate officer saw.

Apart from this, my parents had prepared an affidavit in India for their property too.

Hi Kilbil,
Thanks for the reply. I was also thinking from past few days of doing the same. Could you pl. tell me how do we do an affidavit here? Is it supposed to be on some stamp-paper like in India & if so how and where should we do it? Is a lawyer required?
Thanks.
